Tech Analysis and Context

I contributed to the analysis of the system context, including hardware components, physical interfaces, environmental conditions, and operational constraints. Carried out in a controlled lab setup with military and police personnel and formed part of my master’s program within a student group.

Research Setup and Methods

As part of the research team, I helped design the evaluation framework using usability heuristics, task-based metrics, structured observation, and UEQ-S questionnaires. This combination allowed both measurable performance and perceived user experience to be assessed consistently.

Software Interaction Quality

Software-driven tasks such as powering on the device and navigating the boot menu showed high pragmatic quality and low error rates. These interactions proved robust even under time pressure and reduced lighting.

Hardware Interaction Challenges

Interactions with physical components such as boot modules and power connectors caused higher error rates and longer completion times. Missing visual and haptic guidance led to confusion, especially when using gloves and operating under stress.

Findings and Impact

The team consolidated quantitative results and qualitative observations into a structured usability measures catalog. BACKBONE used these findings to refine the 2.0 prototype and to consider design decisions for future production versions.
